Care & Maintenance

Keeping Your Furniture Beautiful

Simple habits that will keep your Furniture Reserve pieces looking and feeling their best for decades.

Upholstery (fabric)

Weekly

Vacuum with a soft brush attachment, paying attention to crevices and the underside of cushions. Rotate reversible cushions front-to-back. Flip and rotate every month.

Spills

Blot immediately with a clean, dry white cloth — never rub, which pushes the spill deeper into the fibers. For water-based spills, follow up with a barely-damp cloth. For oil-based spills, call our team.

Cleaning code

Check the fabric care code stitched into every cushion. W means water-based cleaner. S means solvent only. WS means either. X means vacuum only — call us.

Leather

Regular care

Dust with a dry microfiber cloth weekly. Keep leather out of direct sunlight to prevent fading; rotate cushions to even out any subtle color shift.

Conditioning

Every 6–12 months, condition with a leather conditioner formulated for fine furniture leathers. We recommend Leather Master or Chamberlain's. Avoid waxes, oils, or saddle soaps — they can darken the leather permanently.

Spills

Blot with a clean dry cloth. If it's water, dry naturally — don't use heat. If it's anything else, call us before attempting to clean.

Wood

Weekly

Dust with a soft dry cloth, following the grain. Avoid feather dusters which can scratch.

Environmental

Keep wood out of direct sunlight, away from heating vents, and in rooms with stable humidity (30–50% is ideal). Hardwood moves with seasonal changes; don't block airflow around pieces against exterior walls.

Annual

Once a year, a light application of a quality furniture wax or natural oil finish (depending on the original finish) keeps the wood looking rich. We can send our recommendation for the specific piece you own.

Mattresses

Rotate your mattress 180 degrees every 3 months for the first year, then every 6 months thereafter. Use a mattress protector — it extends life and is a warranty requirement for most Tempur-Pedic products.
